Gondola and base area

In addition to the 4-person gondola lift, the first of the Rainbow ski lifts started from the base area. The second lift then went up to the lower part of the Minamisawa section of the ski area, with the Nihonkai Course ski run coming down the mountain back to the base. If there are still any remains of the old ski lifts, they can no longer be seen due to the trees and thick undergrowth. However, the route of the downhill Nihonkai Course can still be made out from a distance.

Kitazawa

Kitazawa was the area 'round the back', and it can now only be reached via a 7km stretch of narrow, winding mountain road. At the top is a curiously located mini-circuit for radio-controlled model cars, but of more interest are the abandoned remains of the two Kitazawa single ski lifts.

The top section of the Number 2 lift is by the side of the circuit. From that point, it went down the side of the mountain.

A few hundred metres further up the road are the remains of the lower section of the Number 1 lift. A chained gate prevents people from entering the current Park Shishiku facility from this back area, and the path of the Number 1 lift stretches on either side of this gate. The top station of the Number 1 lift can be found about 400m from the top of the gondola on the other side and close to a Buddhist stupa 白山仏舎利塔. Unfortunately, it is now entirely surrounded by trees and thick bushes, making it impossible to see properly or approach.

Minamisawa

At the top of the gondola lift was the Minamisawa area. Minamisawa was the last section of Sky Shishiku to remain open as a ski area (until 1996). The pair lift remains in place but has been unused for years. The second Rainbow lift from the base of the ski area used to come up to the lower flat part of Minamisawa, and the starting point of the downhill Nihonkai Course can just about be made out on the right side.
