Usagizawa was a ski area in what used to be Oohata Town, now part of Mutsu City, in Aomori Prefecture. When it was open, Usagizawa was the most northerly ski area on the main island of Honshu. There was one rope tow lift and floodlights for night skiing. Usagizawa was last open in March 2020.

Further Information

  • Usagizawa Ski Area was located in what used to be Oohata Town 大畑町
     
  • Oohata Town became part of Mutsu City むつ市 in March 2005
     
  • The ski area was west of the main town area behind what is now Mutsu Shiritsu Ohata Junior High School むつ市立大畑中学校
     
  • When it was open, Usagizawa was the most northerly ski area on the main Japanese island of Honshu
     
  • There was one rope tow lift and a slope about 250m in length
     
  • The left side of the slope coming down from the top was known as a 'snowboarding area' and featured a natural pipe/bowl like section
     
  • There were floodlights and in later years Usagizawa was open until 7:45pm on weekends and holidays
     
  • A one hour ticket to use the rope tow was 470 yen for adults and 240 yen for children
     
  • Usagizawa appears to have last been open in March 2020
     
  • The most northerly ski area on Honshu still operating in 2025 is Mutsushi Kamafuseyama むつ市釜臥山スキー場 (link on SnowJapan)
