Oyasu Onsen

Oyasu Onsen was a ski area close to the onsen hot springs of the same name in Yuzawa City, Akita Prefecture. This ski area was also known as Tokotonyama Oyasu Onsen Ski Area. It closed in 2018, and soon after, the pair lift was removed but the buildings around the base area remain. There is still year-round camping around the base of the old ski area.

  • Oyasu Onsen was sometimes known as Tokotonyama Oyasu Onsen Ski Area とことん山 小安温泉スキー場
     
  • It was located close to the hot spring onsen area of the same name
     
  • There was one pair lift with ski slopes coming off it that were perhaps too difficult for beginners
     
  • A rope tow around the base area catered for beginners
     
  • In a 1996 guidebook, it mentions that there was night skiing at Oyasu Onsen
     
  • However, in later years of operation, it was not open for night skiing
     
  • In an official town report from 2016, it showed that only 1,302 people used the ski area (presumably in the most recent season)
     
  • In March 2018, it was announced that the ski area would be permanently closing
     
  • The ski lifts were completely removed, but the buildings at base remain
     
  • The base area is used as a camp area called Tokotonyama Camp Area とんとん山 キャンプ場
     
  • It is open throughout the year
