Ski areas from Japan’s past 過去の日本のスキー場を懐かしむ
September 2026 update
There have been some location visits over this spring and summer, and some new listings added to SnowJapanHistory in 2026, but site updates have been less frequent recently.
The main reason for that is the concentrated work involved over more than one year on the newly relaunched SnowJapan. If you haven’t already, please do take a look here.
SnowJapanHistory was launched in 2020, and with 350 listings it feels like the right time to rethink the site and give it a new look. There might be as many as 100 old ski areas still to be listed on the site, but rather than rushing them out, I’d like to concentrate on improving the site and its structure first.
It is going to be a busy winter with the relaunched SnowJapan too, so there are a lot of things to be getting on with. (As always!)
As such, there won’t be any new SnowJapanHistory listings until around summer 2027. Once we get to that point, there should be a renewed SnowJapanHistory to explore. Lots of ideas, and I’m looking forward to bringing them all together.
In the meantime, SnowJapanHistory will of course remain online as normal.
