Kadohara

勝原スキー場(カドハラ) 福井県大野市

Kadohara was a ski area located on the northern slopes of Arashimadake in Ono City, Fukui Prefecture. The ski area's name was often written in katakana rather than kanji. It opened in 1963 and closed at the end of the 2009 winter season. The Kadohara IC exit of the Chubu Jukan Expressway is now open where the ski lifts used to be.

Further Information

  • The name Kadohara was often written in katakana characters  カドハラスキー場
     
  • The katakana name was seen on a course map at the base of the ski area when it was open
     
  • Kadohara was positioned as a day trip ski area and 'suitable for families'
     
  • At one time there was night skiing on certain days
     
  • Kadohara ski area closed in 2010 and both of the ski lifts were removed
     
  • The longer lift was the first to be taken down, and dismantled parts of the top part of the lift remain on the mountain
     
  • The base of the old ski area is the starting point of a popular hiking trail up Mt Arashimadake  荒島岳登山口
     
  • The Chubu Jukan Expressway 中部縦貫自動車道 is currently being built to eventually connect Fukui City with Matsumoto City in Nagano Prefecture, spanning three prefectures (Fukui, Gifu and Nagano)
     
  • In recent years, extensive construction work has been ongoing around the location of the old ski area base
     
  • The Kadohara IC exit of the Chubu Jukan Expressway, along with the section of road between Ono IC and Kadohara IC, opened on 19th March 2023
     
  • The ski lifts at Kadohara ski area used to be where Kadohara IC is now
     
  • The open section of the road in within Fukui Prefecture now extends to the Kuzuryu IC exit, southeast of Kadohara, which opened on 28th October 2023
     
  • The section of the new road around Kadohara is somewhat confusingly labelled as Chubu Jukan Expressway, Eiheiji Ono Road 永平寺大野道路 and National Route 158
