Aburasaka Ski Park

Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture

油坂スキーパーク 岐阜県郡上市

Aburasaka Ski Park was a ski area located in Gujo City in Gifu Prefecture, close to the border with Fukui Prefecture. It seems to have opened in 1933, making it the oldest ski area in Gifu Prefecture. There were three ski lifts at one time, and some ski runs went over the road on two bridges, as did one ski lift. In later years, just one ski lift was operating. Aburasaka closed after the 2004 season.

Further Information

  • This ski area was originally known as Aburasaka  油坂スキー場

  • It was part of Shirotori Town 白鳥町, which has been part of Gujo City since 2004

  • It is not clear when the name was changed to Akurasaka Ski Park  油坂スキーパーク

  • The ski area seems to have opened in 1933 (or 1928, according to one guidebook), making it the oldest ski area in Gifu Prefecture

  • Aburaska had a rather unique location as the upper ski courses came back down to base across two road bridges (Route 158)

  • Unfortunately, this is one of those old ski areas for which available information from various sources is often frustratingly conflicting - much of the information in the above data table differs depending on which old guidebook you look at!

  • It is not 100% clear which of the ski lifts shown in the above image was a pair lift

  • In later years, only pair lift was apparently operating before it closed in 2004

  • Some artificial snow-making machines were used at one time

  • At one time, there was night skiing at Aburasaka until midnight on Saturdays and until 10pm on other days

  • The Aburasaka Sakura Park  油坂さくらパーク  can now be found at this location

  • As the name implies, it features cherry blossom trees as well as other outdoor leisure activities

  • On a visit in June 2023, there were clear 'No Entry' signs around the entrance to the facility

  • All photos were taken from the side of Route 158
