Ibi Kogen

Ibigawa Town, Gifu Prefecture

揖斐高原スキー場 岐阜県揖斐川町

Ibi Kogen was a ski area located on the northern slopes of the Kaitsukiyama in Ibigawa Town, in the south western region of Gifu Prefecture. Ibi Kogen was made up of three connecting areas called Kaitsuki, Hisaka and Sakauchi and they shared a common lift ticket. The Hisaka area continued operation after the Kaitsuki and Sakauchi areas closed in the late 2000s. Unfortunately, the Hisaka area has also been closed since the 2019 season. An ongoing struggle with decreasing snowfall seems to have been the main reason.

Further Information

  • Ibi Kogen was made up of three connected areas

  • They were, east to west, Kaitsuki Gelande 貝月ゲレンデ, Hisaka Gelande 日坂ゲレンデ  and Sakauchi Gelande 坂内ゲレンデ

  • A 1989 guide book called the entire ski area Ibi Kogen Kaitsuki Ski Area 揖斐高原貝月スキー場

  • Everywhere else seems to have known it collectively as just Ibi Kogen

  • That same 1989 guide book shows 7 ski lifts across the three areas, with only one being specified as a pair lift

  • It also mentions two sledge-like lifts and four 'star lifts' スターリフト

  • The location of some of those lifts cannot be confirmed - only confirmed lift locations have been added to the above aerial image

  • The Kaitsuki Gelande and Sakauchi Gelande areas closed for the 2009 winter season

  • The central Hisaka Gelande area remained open beyond that season with just the two pair lifts operating

  • Back in the 1980s, Ibi Kogen was usually able to be open from mid-late December until the middle of March

  • In the 2017 season it was not able to open even for one day due to a lack of snow

  • It could only manage to open for three days during the 2018 season

  • Ibi Kogen has been closed since the 2019 season

  • The base area of the ski area is used for camping and is known as Ibi Kogen Kaitsuki Resort  揖斐高原貝月リゾート
