Mekabuchi was a ski area located in the Shin Kazawa Onsen region of Tsumagoi Village in western Gunma Prefecture. It was a small area with one single lift. Mekabuchi opened in 1958 and closed around the mid 1980s. Kazawa Snow Area - previously known as Shin Kazawa and then as Kazawa Highland - is nearby.

Further Information

  • Mekabuchi was the first of a number of ski areas in the Shin Kazawa Onsen  新鹿沢温泉  area of Tsumagoi Village
     
  • It opened in 1958 with one 465m single lift
     
  • The ski lift serviced a few ski runs that came down on one side
     
  • It is thought to have closed around the mid 1980s
     
  • The lift has been removed and trees now cover the upper areas
     
  • Kazawa Ski Area  鹿沢スキー場 was about 3.5km to the south of Mekabuchi
     
  • Kazawa Ski Area opened in the early 1960s and closed in 1996 (more information here)
     
  • A larger ski area that is now known as Kazawa Snow Area  鹿沢スノーエリア  is about 1km to the west of Mekabuchi
     
  • That ski area originally opened in 1965 with just one single lift and was known as Shin Kazawa Ski Area  新鹿沢スキー場
     
  • In 1978, it changed name to Kazawa Highland  鹿沢ハイランドスキー場 and in 2001 it became Kazawa Snow Area
     
  • Kazawa Snow Area is currently the only ski area operating in the Shin Kazawa Onsen area (more information here)

Located by the side of Prefecture Road 94, about 2km off Route 406 in the Shin Kazawa Onsen region of Tsumagoi Village.
About 24km from the Ueda Sugadaira IC exit of the Joshinetsu Expressway.
About 28km from Ueda Station on the Hokuriku Shinkansen and Shinano lines.
