Atsutamura

Ishikari City, Hokkaido

厚田村スキー場 北海道石狩市

Atsutamura was a small ski area in what used to be Atsuta Village, now part of Ishikari City, in Hokkaido. This ski area had one schlep (or J-bar) lift and had a fairly gentle slope. Snowboarders were not allowed at Atsutamura. The ski area appears to have closed in the late 2000s.

Further Information

  • For most of the time when this ski area was operating, it was part of Atsuta Village 厚田村

  • In October 2005, Atsuta Village became part of Ishikari City 石狩市

  • The ski area had one schlep lift, also known as a J-bar (where skiers held on to a hanging bar as skis remained on the surface of the snow and the skiers were dragged up the slope)

  • It was a skiers-only area

  • Atsutamura was still operating in the mid-2000s and appears to have closed in 2009 (possibly 2008)

  • Images from 2022 show that the lift has been at least partially removed, though at least some towers and concrete foundations at the top appear to remain

  • The Atsuta Park Observation Desk 厚田展望台 is at the top of the slope

  • It is also known as Lover's Sanctuary 恋人の聖地 -  'the first place in Hokkaido chosen for the 'Holy Land of Lovers' project that introduces 100 tourist spots that are suitable for love vows and proposals'

  • (...it says on an official town site!)
