Ryugamori

竜ヶ森スキー場　岩手県八幡平市

Ryugamori was a ski area in Hachimantai City in Iwate Prefecture. It opened in 1952 and closed in 1994. It once had two ski lifts, two rope tow surface lifts, and a ski jump. It was particularly popular with people visiting by train, with a nearby station. An international school and golf course can now be found close to the location of the old ski area.

  • Ryugamori Ski Area opened on 27th January 1952
    　
  • The nearby train station, open in 1961, was called Ryugamori Station 竜ヶ森駅
    　
  • It later changed its name to Appi Kogen Station 安比高原駅 in 1988
    　
  • Ryugamori Ski Area was operating well before the larger Appi Kogen ski area 安比高原 (now often known as just APPI) opened in 1981 nearby
    　
  • The aerial photograph of the area from 1976 shows a single ski lift at Ryugamori
    　
  • There was also at least one rope tow surface lift - a 1976 guidebook mentions two 200m rope tow lifts
    　
  • There also seems to have been another single ski lift added at a later date
    　
  • The positioning of the second lift shown on the second aerial image above is a best guess based on information available and old maps
