Mizusawa

Nishikawa Town, Yamagata Prefecture

水沢スキー場 山形県西川町

Mizusawa was a small ski area in Nishikawa Town in the central region of Yamagata Prefecture. It had one rope tow lift and was operated by a local group, usually only open on evenings. Other than that, not much else is known about it!

Further Information

  • Mizusawa ski area is one of those about which very little confirmed information can be found

  • It was a small ski area west of central Nishikawa Town

  • There was one rope tow lift on the left-hand side of the slope (as viewed from the base)

  • The ski slope seems to have been operated by a local group calling itself 「スキーを楽しむ会」 (literally translated as 'Ski Enjoyment Club'), and was normally only open during the evenings

  • An elevated section of the Yamagata Expressway, close to what used to be the base of the ski area, opened in 1999

  • On a visit to the location on a beautiful day in October 2023, there were various signs in the base area asking visitors not to venture further up the hill
